Image Display in Xwindows
In any window, initiate iraf and load the xray package.
cfa#: cd iraf
cfa#: cl
cl> xray
The task ximtool
which initiates the image display window is in the xplot package. It allows selection of one of three image displays:
xr> xplot
xp> ximtool
Display type = saoimage/ximtool/saotng(ximtool):saoimage
- ximtool is a new Xwindow display tool developed at NOAO.
(Note: Please do not confuse the task and the tool which
unfortunately have the same name.)
- saotng i.e. ``the next generation'' SAOimage under
development at SAO. It can be retrieved via anonymous ftp from
sao-ftp.harvard.edu in the directory /pub/rd. The source tree is
contained in a compressed tar file: saord.tar.z. The unpacked tar
file requires 45 Mbytes of disk space. The build requires
90 Mbytes depending on the platform. For more information send
email to: saotng@cfa.harvard.edu.
If you select saoimage, a window will appear, which has several
sections:
- the main image display (containing the SAO logo)
- the menu
- the text window (upper left)
- a full image display showing which portion of the image is shown
in the main display window (upper middle)
- a magnifier window displaying a close up of the region around
the mouse position (upper right)
- a large text window (SAOmonolog) for status and verbose output
An image can now be displayed.
