eincdrom

Much of the Einstein data archive has now been released on CD-ROM in FITS BINTABLE format (IPC Events, HRI Events, the Slew Survey IPC Unscreened Data) and in FITS image arrays (EOSCAT and HRI images). The routines in eincdrom are macros that use standard IRAF/PROS tasks to read the FITS files directly from the CD-ROM. The tasks in this section are

• eincdpar. This routine sets the package wide parameters, including the location of the CD-ROMs and the indexes on your local system. Listing the parameters gives the following:

  The path names must be correctly specified in order for eincdrom tasks to work. The default values are set for the HEAD CfA Network.

• ecd2pros is a task which converts CD-ROM FITS files to IRAF/PROS format, and puts the converted files in the users space. If an event list fits file is specified a qpoe file is created, if an image file is specified an IRAF image is produced. This task will access files on the latest Einstein CD-ROM set, the IPC Unscreened Data, including the auxiliary data files (see the help files "explain_eincdrom" and "help ecd2pros" for more details of auxiliary data). It replaces the tasks fits_get and qp_get.

• ecdinfo is a task which gives information on any FITS file given a sequence number or FITS file name. It gives the FITS root, the title of the observation, the RA and Dec of the field center, the livetime and the location of the CDROM directory.
